Stormy Sky Over Roof — Metal Roofing in Tweed Heads South, NSW

Here at Ron Nickel Roofing, we repair roofs for many reasons. Some repairs are minor while others take significant work.

Obviously, as a homeowner, it is better if you catch a problem early because the lesser amount of work and/or materials will mean lower costs.

Roofs may seem to be a simple structure, but a surprising number of things can go wrong. Here are some of the signs you need to call us straight away for roof repairs in Tweed Heads

  • Leaks

This is the most obvious sign there is something amiss. Even small leaks can cause significant damage to your home’s interior, so any noticeable leak should be investigated right away.

Leaks can occur where shingles, tiles, or slates are missing or have moved creating gaps, or from holes or damage in the roof structure. It could be a problem with the flashing which is allowing water into the roof space.

  • Missing, cracked, or broken shingles

A single tile, slate or shingle in a poor state – cracked, broken, or shifted – does not necessarily signify a major issue but it should still be checked. More than one however, is definitely a cause for concern. Finding shingles on the ground is a big warning sign.

It might be poor installation, high winds/extreme weather, or old age causing the shingles to fall but missing shingles will weaken your roof and expose the interior of your home to further damage.

  • Increased energy bills

If you notice a sudden increase in your energy bills, there might be a roofing problem as its cause. Air conditioning costs and heating costs will increase if cool air or warm air is leaking out through the roof.

  • Age

Generally, you can expect a roof to last twenty to twenty-five years. Beyond that, it simply begins to lose integrity. A roof’s lifespan is affected by several factors.

Climatic conditions and the weather including storms, snow, heavy rain, and drought can decrease a roof’s lifespan. The type of material also may affect the lifespan of a roof.

  • Hidden signs

Not all roofing issues are visible upon an exterior inspection. It is important to inspect your roof space at least once a year to check for any problems. You might feel a draught, spot a minor leak, or see daylight coming in.
